While I was growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Tennessee Bluegrass music was heard everywhere.
From the local radio stations like WDVX 89.9 FM
and church stages you could always hear the strings making that down home sound that I love so much.
When I left my childhood home to make my mark in the world I left that sound behind. But that lonesome high
mountain sound always echoed in the back of my mind. I found nothing like it over the many years I was away
and began to long for a return to my roots. I had explored the world and found many exciting things but I
realized there's no place like home.
In Memphis I've been blessed to find great Bluegrass programs like "The Bluff City Barn Dance" and "Hillbilly
Jazz Show" hosted by the
Ridge Runner and "Bluegrass
and Beyond" hosted by
on WEVL and Larry Bomar's "Shelby County
Farm and Poultry Show" on WQOX, live performances at the
Lucy Opry and a local promotional
organization, Memphis Area Bluegrass
Association.
